Situated along the Merrimack River just eight miles from Lowell on the southern NH border, the Academy's 200-acre campus offers pristine fields, ponds, and forests in which to explore, learn and play. The natural environment provides seclusion and security unique to the area while also being in close proximity to local emergency services. For more than 150 years, students of all backgrounds have attended the Academy for a rich academic and religious education. Mission Statement The Academy of Notre Dame, Tyngsboro was established in 1854 based on the educational philosophy of St. Julie Billiart, foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The mission of the Academy focuses on educating the whole person for life through a curriculum rooted in spiritual formation and academic excellence. They nurture a belief in the goodness of God and the dignity of each person and are committed to community-building, diversity, global justice and service to those in need. Students follow the Hallmarks of the Notre Dame de Namur learning community which proclaim the following: that God is good; that each person has dignity and sacredness; education and action should be made towards justice and peace; students should have a commitment to community service; students should embrace diversity; students and faculty should create a community; and the development of holistic learning communities should educate for life. Program Highlights The Academy offers a unique, highly esteemed educational option to families that come from more than 30 communities in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire and represent a diverse blend of cultures, economic backgrounds and faiths. The Academy’s elementary program is divided into three learning levels: Early Years (Pre-K - Kindergarten 2) Three-tiered early childhood exploratory program for children who are 3 years old by September 1st. Hands-on, developmental curriculum reflecting the values of community service, environmental responsibility and cultural acceptance. Incorporation of technology and software including a Mini Makerspace, iPads, Bee-Bot® early coding, and the Osmo™ game system.
